Vladimír Páral Vladimír Páral was born in Prague in 1932. After graduating in chemistry, he worked for thirteen years as an engineer, specialising in the research of sex hormones. He travelled extensively in India, China, Nepal, Middle Asia, the United States and Canada.

In the sixties he became one of the most successful and popular Czech writers, inventing his own so-called “technological style”. He has published fourteen novels, seven of which were adapted for the screen. They include Catapult, The Four Sonyas, Lovers and Murderers, and most recently A Book of Pleasure, Laughter and Joy.  Vladimír Páral lives in Prague and Mariánské Lázně.
